Am I pointing (ha) out the obvious?

Has anyone given a thought to the relatively overt (that is a pun) sexual overtones of scissors? Their obvious phallic connotations..

… the diagrammatic similarity to uterine anatomy of these dental scissors?

Geez, I’ve been looking at WAY too much Duchamp lately. And Maria the midwife should take some credit for inundating me with uterine imagery for ten years…

More simply even than that, open the scissors, they are a uterus, close them, a phallus. A real hermaphroditic existence for such an innocuous tool!

love these images – and yes I love the inversion of the symbol – what would it mean to have a man holding the scissors or a woman? putting fingers inside of – well guess the same parts for either – testes or ovaries – who is ultimately controlling?

  2. Ah. This is getting very interesting indeed, a good tangent…

  3. Amazingly insightful tangent indeed

  4. @violet, one of the results of this is in the “double pony” snippet we’re creating as an installation, if you saw it…
